Pierre-Laurent Brenot (1913-1998)
“ISABELLE”
Pierre-Laurent Brenot was born on July 8, 1913 in Paris.
In 1928 Brenot entered the Ecole Estienne which he intended for three years. He then studied with French designer Fernand Hertenberger, Brenot’s power of observation, paint strokes were noticed very early on.
During the years 1936 to 1950, he moved in many directions becoming known for his design creativity with fashion drawings for Balenciaga, Nina Ricci, Lanvin and Rochas among other designers and milliners. Also during this period he began drawing and painting portraits. From 1944 he expanded his career to include poster artist and illustrator. However, his original love of painting prevailed throughout is career.
His work depicts the beauty of which he saw the world through his eyes. As shown in the enchanting painting above “ISABELLE” the detail and fluidness in all his work create a feeling of movement in the work.
Pierre-Laurent Brenot died on May 8, 1998, at his estate in Loches.
